I am pondering the nature of Alternate Reality Gaming -- is this a hypersigil framework, or what?:

Any thoughts?

a grand way of marketing things....

It could be a hypersigil.. but can't any life be made a game?

      true, true...

but i think this is actually a hypersigil framework: sort of like a software system for creating a type of mass-involvement hypersigil. and what i find odd is that there is that marketing slant. a good point i read in a related article was that even if the consumer culture grabs onto this framework for consciousness expansion, it cannot help but be evolved. it is like the techniques of reality bending are going mainstream. and the folks who are participating are having transcendental experiences that they wonder how they can re-experience... they long for the time when they were immersed in the "game."

i am just wondering how to get one of these buggers going on a large enough scale to make some shit happen... it seems that the seeds have to be planted well in advance and then a good group of collaborators is needed to perpetuate the reality/hypersigil...

      thanks for your thoughts.

Been kind of obsessed with the whole ARG phenomenon for a while. This is where developers and players hang out and interact our of character.
I have never actually played one, but I have been studying them and certain aspects of MMORPGs for a while. I personally think that the underlying ideas behind them are fascinating for a number of reasons, not to mention the magical impact (brain burn/sigils are of note here).

How useful in magic can it be?

                My thought was this:

If people are immersed in an ARG that they think is merely a game (but the orchestrators know is an elaborate hypersigil ritual), then quite a lot of use can come from it.

                a) you get complete belief and immersion from possibly thousands of psychic-carbon units (peeps)

                b) you concentrate all that psychic energy towards a goal

                c) then you release the energy though the inner-workings and unfolding of the "game," or alternate reality play.

                  True enough.
You run risk of "players" attempting to focus upon themselves. Though the loss there is minimal a player who's reaction to the events is negative or one of shared disbelief could affect the overall direction of the work. Your orchestrator would then have to wrangle the project back on track or risk an unforseen outcome. Otherwise termination of the ritual would be forced, and that's often a nasty jolt that sours the mouth.
In the end, I like the idea but feel that an established group of core players, ones who value the outcome over the part, is the key. As much fun as it is to drag a newbie out of his or her reality and subject them to a mass mind in this case the protection is not there. A self-styled Choamage called Ballard did something simular to this. He named it Ballard Drunken Timelessness. In the end only a ecclectic group was able to shift smoothly. Sometimes a good catholic boy is an asset.

                    And in the reality corner....

However in a non gaming aspect this is happening right now when consumers partake in tv and voting. There psychic energy is being used to keep a certain group controlling this country. If you don't believe there are subliminal sigils in tv then re think you're reality...

                      Hmm....
Something a little backwards about your thought there, Kasi. In regards to TV and media it is not the publics mind that is shaping it's role. Quite opposite. Instead of the public being open to the individual thoughts of (let's say) 100 million people they are instead streaming the thoughts offered by only (lets say) 50 TV channels all cross-wired to run virtually the same programming. This is how things like "Whaaassssss-uppp!" enters the vocab of the public. It didn't start in the streets it started in a boardroom and filtered down. While your right that the public is entrenched to keep a certain group in power, the fault lays with the creator and not the audience. Evidence is the "too much violence in video games" arguement. Agreed, but blaming the kids for playing them... these companies aren't run by 10 year olds! They arn't the one making the game. If you stab someone who is at fault. You or the knife? Who had the intent?
Another good example would be how muddled magick has been made thanks to TV. Raise your hand if you have ever casted a "fireball" (as in big flamey orb produced in palm that lit your curtains on fire). Not many hands went up I would think. If I said, "when was the last time one of us shapechanged fire".... well I would hazard to guess that many of us stepped forward on that. Media has currupted the thought of outcome. Shapeshifting Fire (for those of us who have preformed the feat) isn't as nearly "flash-pow" as movies would make it seem.
As far as voting. Well... there is a major diffrence between accepted outcome and shaped outcome. Voting places the burden on the system of registering, filing and counting and not on the true will of the voter. Otherwise on Nov4th Bush would not have been made president, Jesus would have.
Lastly, with all due respect owed to you, I never questioned subliminal tv sigils. One should remeber the rule of "harm none" and remember that language is a powerful weapon. Your comment may not have been offered with such offense intended but outcome states otherwise. Many would call your remarks (and this rebuttle for that matter) "poor form".
